Thank you for your prayers during my recent pilgrimage to Italy. It was a blessing to have so many parishioners join me, and a wonderful opportunity to get to know them better. As I mentioned before, I wish I could have taken all of you with me—though I truly did carry you with me in prayer.
During the pilgrimage, we passed through the Holy Doors at the four major basilicas in Rome and visited many other churches that hold relics of the saints. I prayed for all of you at each of those sacred sites. In a particular way, I lit a candle for all of you at the Holy House of Loreto, believed to be the home of our Blessed Mother, miraculously transferred to Italy. I also offered my Pro Populo Mass (Mass for all my parishioners) on November 9 at the Basilica of Saint Francis in Assisi.
Red Mass
This Tuesday, Bishop Keehner will celebrate our annual Red Mass for men and women in the legal profession, as well as for public servants. I hope you’ll be able to join us as we pray a Votive Mass of the Holy Spirit for them.
Together As One
As you know, with the start of the new fiscal year we also began a new cycle of the diocesan annual appeal, Together As One. I’m very grateful that over the past few years we’ve reached—and even surpassed—our parish goal, and I’m confident we can do it again this year.
As of now, we have reached 47% of our goal, with $25,777 pledged toward our target of $55,057. If you haven’t yet had the opportunity to contribute, I invite you to prayerfully consider doing so.

The Cathedral Youth Group
The Cathedral Youth Group continues to invite all teens in grades 9-12 to join the Dead Theologians Society, the name of the program is “Dead to the World, Alive in Christ.” Our next meeting is Nov. 23rd.
Parents, this program is based on the lives of the saints, as through the saints of yesterday, the Dead Theologians Society (DTS) inspires the youth of today to become the saints of tomorrow and can help them discover their vocation to the priesthood or religious life. Encourage your teens to become part of a community, learn about the saints, and grow in a deeper relationship with Christ.

The group meets twice a month, every two weeks, and currently has between 15 and 18 members. The adult team is requesting the cooperation and support of parishioners so that the group can continue operating. This program is based on the lives of saints, as the Society of Dead Theologians (DTS) inspires young people today to become the saints of tomorrow through the saints of yesterday and can help them discover their vocation to the priesthood, religious life, or marriage vocation.
We are requesting the help of all parishioners with prepared food or groceries, desserts, snacks, drinks, or gift cards from a store or restaurant so that we can continue providing dinner for the youth at each session. We are also looking for more people who would like to get involved and be part of the team. A Family of Faith
5 Extra Classes for Confirmation Candidates
Confirmation candidates who have not yet received the Sacrament of First Communion will attend 5 extra classes, beginning Wednesday, November 19th, at the Epiphany Center from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm. Please arrive on time, as the catechist will be waiting for you at the entrance of the building.
Recommendations for activities to do at home with students preparing for the Sacrament of Confirmation:
1. Review the topic from the last lesson, number 4: Our Father: Summary of the Whole
Gospel and do the activities together.
2. Study the prayers daily to establish the habit of praying together as a family. Read together the article “Three Misconceptions About Confirmation,” answer the questions, and return it to the catechist by December 10. Confirmation candidates are also expected to submit the full name of their sponsor by December 10, via sccathedral.org/sponsor
3. Read together the article “Why Do Catholics Choose Saints for Confirmation?” Bring a sheet about the saint you will choose for Confirmation and submit it by January 14. Confirmation candidates are also expected to submit the name of their chosen saint by January 14, via sccathedral.org/Saint.

Host Joanne Fox interviews Father Bruce Lawler, a retired priest of the Diocese of Sioux City, in preparation for the Liturgical Season of Advent which begins on Sunday, Nov. 30. Carmelite Nuns Celebration
All parishioners and friends are invited to attend a celebration commemorating the 60th anniversary of the Carmelite Guild Board of Directors and Carmelite Nuns of Sioux City. The event will take place on Tuesday, April 18 from 1:00pm to 3:00pm at Holy Cross St. Michael Parish Center, 2223 Indian Hills Drive. Doors open at 12:30pm.
The day includes a dessert bar, beverage, information on the Carmel Guild and peace cards, display of Carmel memorabilia, and a slide show. Cards may be played until 3:00pm. Raffle tickets can be purchased until 2:30pm at $1.00 each, and the winners will be announced at 3:00pm. There will be a free will donation. For more information please call 212-0248 or 635-4488.
Bible Study
We will have a new 5 week Bible Study during Easter entitled “The Power of the Resurrection” led by Fr. Jeremy Wind. We will meet Thursday’s at 6:45pm starting April 20-May 18th. Please contact the office for more information.
We need volunteers to help with the occasional funeral luncheons at St. Boniface, St. Joseph, and the Cathedral. Time commitment would be from approximately 9:30am-1:00pm. No cooking or prep work is involved; all the luncheons are catered. Responsibilities include setting up, greeting the caterer, possibly making lemonade or coffee, assisting the family, and light clean up afterwards. We are happy to provide families and friends a space to gather for sharing, which is an important part of the grieving process. Deacon Jake Rosenmeyer extends his thanks and gratitude to the Cathedral parishioners for their prayerful support, especially those who attended his Ordination Mass this weekend. Please pray for Deacon Jake as he prepares to go to his summer assignment at John Paul II Parish in Carroll and as he prepares to finish his last year of seminary in St. Louis.

Please remember to either silence or turn off your phone before you come into the church. We have recently had several instances of phones going off during the Mass and it is a good reminder to please observe this act of courtesy and respect for both our Lord and other parishioners.
