After a fruitful canon law convention in Albuquerque, I returned to the parish just in time for baptisms and a wedding on Saturday, in addition to our weekend Masses.
Speaking of weddings, I want to take this opportunity to remind you that all the requirements for weddings at the Cathedral can be found at this link. One often overlooked requirement is that parishioners must be registered and active in the parish. We do celebrate weddings for non-parishioners, as long as at least one of the parties is Catholic, but they are asked to pay a higher fee. When people come in claiming to be parishioners but are not registered, they are required to pay the non-parishioner fee. The reason we have a lower fee for parishioners is because they are expected to be supporting the parish regularly. If there is no record of this support, we treat them as non-parishioners. So, what I’m saying is, if you have adult single children, make sure they are registered and supporting the parish.
At this point, most weekends in September and October of next year are already booked for weddings, which is a great blessing. If you or anyone you know would like to get married at the Cathedral Parish, it's important to contact us soon. The Diocese of Sioux City requires that couples contact their parish at least nine months before their wedding to allow enough time for marriage preparation. In our case, due to how busy we are, we recommend initiating contact at least a year in advance.
As a primarily Hispanic parish, we also celebrate quinceañeras. These can only be scheduled within nine months of the desired date. Any request for a date outside of this nine-month window will be discarded; we will not save the date for anyone. This may sound strict, but we must be fair and consistent. Parish Announcements
Sunday Sung Vespers has resumed at the Cathedral, which is celebrated every Sunday at 4:00 pm except when there is a federal holiday on the following Monday.This is the official public prayer of singing the Psalms that the Church has done for centuries and the Second Vatican Council highly encouraged that it be prayed in parishes. It lasts less than half an hour and is a perfect way, along with Mass, to make Sunday holy.

- Red Mass for legal professionals on Thursday, November 7 at 5:30 pm.

Save the date for our traditional All Hallows Eve party, which will take place at 6:00 pm on October 31 at the Epiphany Center. Bring your children and grandchildren dressed as their favorite saint. If you’d like to donate candy for the party, please drop it off at the parish office.
Remember that All Saints Day falls on Friday, November 1 and is a Holy Day of Obligation. Because it is a moral obligation and a precept of the Church, please make plans to attend Mass somewhere on November 1 or the evening prior on October 31 (after 4 pm). Cathedral Masses for All Saints Day will be on October 31 at 7:00 pm (English), November 1 at 9:00 am (Spanish), 12:00 pm (English), 5:30 pm (Spanish), and 7:00 pm (Spanish). The 5:30 pm Spanish Mass on October 31 will also suffice for the Holy Day, even though it will only be the daily Mass.
Due to the federal holiday on Monday, November 11, there will be no confessions and only one Mass in English at 9:00 am. There will be no Sung Vespers the evening prior on Sunday, November 10.
To honor our Blessed Mother, all are invited to gather with the Knights of Columbus to pray the rosary on the first Saturday of each month at 11:30 a.m. (November 2) on the steps of the Cathedral of the Epiphany. If enough participants are in attendance, the rosary can be prayed in multiple languages to ensure all are included.
Christian Initiation of Adults and Children – Do you know anyone who needs to complete their Sacraments of Initiation? Do you know anyone who is unbaptized or interested in joining the Church? Are you willing to invite someone you know to become Catholic? The Cathedral Parish utilizes individual mentor-based formation throughout the year for those interested in becoming Catholic or those who simply need to complete their sacraments. Carmelite Nuns Celebration
All parishioners and friends are invited to attend a celebration commemorating the 60th anniversary of the Carmelite Guild Board of Directors and Carmelite Nuns of Sioux City. The event will take place on Tuesday, April 18 from 1:00pm to 3:00pm at Holy Cross St. Michael Parish Center, 2223 Indian Hills Drive. Doors open at 12:30pm.
The day includes a dessert bar, beverage, information on the Carmel Guild and peace cards, display of Carmel memorabilia, and a slide show. Cards may be played until 3:00pm. Raffle tickets can be purchased until 2:30pm at $1.00 each, and the winners will be announced at 3:00pm. There will be a free will donation. For more information please call 212-0248 or 635-4488.
Bible Study
We will have a new 5 week Bible Study during Easter entitled “The Power of the Resurrection” led by Fr. Jeremy Wind. We will meet Thursday’s at 6:45pm starting April 20-May 18th. Please contact the office for more information.
We need volunteers to help with the occasional funeral luncheons at St. Boniface, St. Joseph, and the Cathedral. Time commitment would be from approximately 9:30am-1:00pm. No cooking or prep work is involved; all the luncheons are catered. Responsibilities include setting up, greeting the caterer, possibly making lemonade or coffee, assisting the family, and light clean up afterwards. We are happy to provide families and friends a space to gather for sharing, which is an important part of the grieving process.
